Union Jack pillow

Lately I see many images of livingrooms with these gorgeous Union Jack pillows and I would love to have one (of course nowhere to be found in Israel). The cheapest at Ebay was 5 pound for the cover and another 5 pound for shippingcosts, being 10 pounds or around 15 dollars. To steep. Than my mom brought her vintage Husqarna Viking over, saying it became to hard for her to get  the thread trough the needle and if I wanted to try? So I searched at Ebay for a cotton Union Jack bandana and found one, 50x50 cm(16x16 inch) for 1.99 with free shipping (from Hong Kong).
Well I never ever used a sewing maching, but as she showed me, it didn't seem to hard. I found a white zipper in a box in the attic and we had some left over red fabric of Yael's purim costume (the Harry Potter tie), so I went to work on it during lunchbreak today (|after finishing the porridge in my earlier post), as it was a day at the office today for me (I work five days a week fulltime). I finished half and the other half when I got home after work and I must say, I love it! Not bad for a first ever sewing project.

Costs:
Union Jack Bandana 1.99 pound or 3 dollars

left over red fabric - free

What a FAB pillow! I love the details on the back too and oh, that porridge looks so good!

Thank you for entering our giveaway for free fabric! It's ironic - I am making a Union Jack quilt and the block I made is from the fabric we are giving away! Using the red and white stripe is making it go really fast. I love seeing new sewers or quilters. Your pillow is fabulous! I have also wanted to find someone who is currently living in Israel to be a "blog friend". If you want to get together by email, my email is bev@44thstreetfabric.com for work or topinsales@gmail.com as my personal email. I have established some great friendships with people in other countries and we chat and swap info. I want to get into scrapping for myself and if you want to get into sewing, we could help each other. So hope to hear from you! Cheery wave from Bev
